The Gaidhealtachd summer school is dedicated to the exploration of Celtic culture and traditions, and is held every year in the first week of January in Whangarei Heads.
The Gaidhealtachd is a vibrant community of families and individuals, and the week offers an excellent opportunity to enrich the experience of Celtic culture through workshops, talks, ceilidhs, games and more.
The school takes place at the beautifully situated Whangarei Heads School site, where most participants also camp during the week. Apart from the school site, we have ceilidhs in the local Taurikura Bay Hall, hold activities and often visit other sites of interest in the Whangarei Heads, an area rich in cultural history. At the conclusion of the school we hold a community concert with the tutors of the Gaidhealtachd.
Throughout the year we also maintain contact through regular events and gatherings organised by members of the the Gaidhealtachd community.
Please note that the Gaidhealtachd has limited capacity, and if you have not attended previously you may have to enter a ballot when you register. Please refer to our registration page for further information.
We are continuing the develop this site so it can act as an information portal for history of our summer school, a source of links and resources, and much more. Keep checking back!
